Leeds Sports and Outdoor ActivitiesThe city offers a rich sports heritage and is famous for its historic football club, the Leeds United Association FC, which was actually founded way back in 1919. The club is based at the all-seater Elland Road Stadium, where just under 40,000 spectators can be accommodated.

Rugby is another of the most noteworthy spectator sports in the city, with the Headingley Stadium serving as the home ground of both the Leeds Rhinos (rugby league) and the Leeds Carnegie (rugby union) teams. Established in 1890 and able to seat some 17,500 spectators, the stadium resides within the north-westerly suburb of Headingley, roughly a ten-minute drive from the city centre. It functions as a major sporting complex and is also the home of renowned Yorkshire County Cricket Club.
