The weather in Leeds is typically English and often unpredictable, with a mixture of glorious uninterrupted sunshine and more overcast days. The climate is frequently influenced by fronts arriving from the Atlantic Ocean and the Pennines.

Located to the east of the Pennines mountain range, Leeds is known for being reliably dry, particularly when compared to other English cities. During the late-spring and summer months of May, June, July, August and September, the city has many fine and often extremely sunny days, when temperatures can climb well above 20°C / 68°F. The weather in Leeds can also be somewhat changeable, with a gloomy morning turning into a sunny day with high temperatures, and vice-versa.


Spring is a particularly popular time for tourism in the city and the weather tends to be fairly mild during March, April and May, although some days may be wet and windy. Many of the trees in the city's numerous parks and gardens begin to flower at this time, along with spring snowdrops and daffodils.

Temperatures are understandably at their coldest during the winter months, so it is sensible to bring a warm overcoat, scarf and gloves. Snow is not uncommon and there are often cold, clear, frosty days at this time of the year, while early morning fog frequently arrives from the North Sea.
